In a While, Crocodile...

When I contacted the winner "Lauren in New Orleans" that she had won the giveaway for
Brooke and Steve Giannetti's gorgeous book Patina Farm  HERE  I received the sweetest email back from Lauren.  She was so excited to win Patina Farm and she also shared that she has used some of my paint colors and the Pearl finish on the ceiling (that I wrote about HERE)  and that her husband even knew who I was!!  She asked if she could send me a token of her appreciation for all the inspiration over the years that my blog has given her by sending me a cookbook that she and her sister-in-law had written; a cookbook of New Orleans recipes for the slow cooker.   Ummm, yes please!!!

Yesterday afternoon, Dan brings up the mail and there is a large box for me!  Inside was not only the In a While, Crocodile cookbook, but a bounty of Louisiana/New Orleans items that Lauren thought I might have trouble finding in New Hampshire...  isn't that just the sweetest?!!!
The cookbook looks a-mazing- the photographs are beautiful and the recipes look so "do-able" and sound delicious.  Recipes like:  Corn and Crab Bayou Bisque, French Quarter French Dip, Mock Turtle Soup, Jambalaya, Flambeaux Gumbo, Picayuue Pecan Pie, to name but a few-  all made in the slow cooker!   I am so excited to start using the cookbook.  If you like NOLA/Cajun food and using your slow cooker (yes, to all three for me:) then I think you will love this cookbook.

Thank you Lauren for the "Louisiana love"!!

  3. Wow! A win-win situation for all - And both books are getting such great reviews. I'd be curious to ask Lauren what her "desert island" picks would be IF she could only make one savory and one sweet recipe from the book.

I never heard of Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning, but it's getting great reviews on Amazon too. Maybe it's time to buy a slow-cooker.

    1. Oh! My! God! You poor, deprived soul! I live about fifteen miles from the Tony's plant. Man was a fantastic cook! His first cookbook is on it's umpteenth printing. Tony's seasoning mix is the perfect blend of salt, peppers, etc. If I had to pick one seasoning blend to use for the rest of my life, Tony's would be my choice by a landslide! Go on Amazon and order some if you can't find it in the seasoning or ethnic aisles at your grocery store. You won't regret it! And, although it's Cajun seasoning, it's not hot. Many people think Cajun food is supposed to make you sweat and that's just not true. A true Cajun dish is just seasoned to perfection. Should you decide to purchase one of Tony's cookbooks, may I suggest Tony Chachere's Cajun Country Cookbook (green cover). Bon appetit!

    2. Thank you Kim for the Tony Chachere info! It is indeed a great spice mix!

Donna- you really do need to get a slow cooker! They are wonderful to have and cook with! In the card Lauren sent she said the white beans and the white chocolate bread pudding are favorites of hers!

  6. Morning Joan:

That really was a thoughtful return gift to you, and I have put her cleverly-titled book into my wish list. I think I will also buy one for my daughter, who is a busy mom and is moving to Houston, TX in June. She also has family on her husband's side who live in New Orleans, and they will visit them more often. In visiting her, I will now get to see and visit your Texas, at least a different city anyway. And thanks for the new cookbook idea.
