I am so sorry for your loss - having lost cats & dogs over the past 20 years I know excatly what you are going through. Our worst loss was a small girl cat called Bert - she was a beautiful grey colour & as deaf as a post. Believe it or not we got the pick of the litter! Anyhoo poor Bert at 18 months old developed a little cut on her nose that would not heal, so off to the vet she went & after a small investigation, it was found that Bert had tumours in her little body (liver, kidney, spleen). Anyway, after a month of chemo, we brought Bert home, where she spent her last night asleep on my pillow in our bed. I took her to the vets the next day & held her as she was put to sleep - my poor husband had left for work that morning crying his eyes out. We love our pets unconditionally & in return they give us so much pleasure. Always look at your photo of her in snow & know she was loved.Lynseyhttp://londonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6005324767450032096.post-81398534070462461902015-03-10T10:50:55.416-04:002015-03-10T10:50:55.416-04:00Very well said..I've my heartache too. And still sadder to have to say goodbye to them, but they are so worth having in our lives for too many reasons to list. I hope your hearts heal soon. Take care. Over the years we had to put several of our angel dogs down (we adopt the seniors no one else wants from the shelters). Its so hard when that time comes, but you must love them enough to let them go. They will always be a part of you and I believe that they take your love with them. Keeping you and your family in my prayers. Very late of NH, grad of UNH (1978 or so). So much for ID. Re losing Amelia -- by heart aches for you, but she'll have good company across the Rainbow Bridge. We lost our third oldest cockatiel, Luc du Soleil, Dec. 4. A friend lost their old Golden Retriever, Pete, my favorite from dog walking days, about the same time . . . life goes on and I guess that hurt is as big as our love of life lets it be, as loss after loss teaches us how -- I hate to use this word -- precious life is. "Had we but world enough and time." Ah, me. I miss the north country -- enjoy a walk in the lingering snow for me, and place a stone where you remember Amelia for me. Blessings on you and your family -- and thanks for this blog. I can only believe that your sweet Amelia was sent to you so she could finally know true love and happiness and I have no doubt she experienced a lifetime of joy in her all-too-brief time with you. About a year ago, we lost my sister's darling pup, from what sounds like a very similar ailment (the vets never had a definitive answer, except to say she had a "mass near her heart") and I can tell you, at two months or 10 years, it hurts just the same. But the smiles and laughter are there, too, and some day soon those smiles will replace your tears. My sister now has a crazy new puppy -- named Ella!!! -- who reminds us endlessly of her "big sister", Bean. I hope you can take comfort in your happy memories of Amelia and sweet Ella snuggles.
