If you do it please let me know how it turns out and what you think. I know the process of removal is expensive and messy, but it's probably the only thing that will make you happy with the room. If I had that issue I would consider using tongue and groove on the ceiling. I might go with a light gray for the walls but was wondering what finish I should use? And would you keep the doors and woodwork a white semi gloss? But i thought I wo...Hi, i know this is an old post. But i thought I would chime in. I bought my first house in 2004 and my, thus far only, investment property in 2010. I have NEVER thought flat paint was a good idea for ceilings in kitchens or baths and used semi gloss!! Easier to clean grease over a stove or condensation stains (or people coloring their hair then getting spray on the walls and ceiling). Yes, you know where imperfections are and can,see them easier, but the sheen does wonders for overall feel. In both properties the ceilings do not have door frames delineating the kitchens from the dining room....so I extended the, semi gloss into those spaces, my rental always gets compliments and I do,think it is partly the sheen of the ceiling. Also, having studied color, color theory, classic portrait painting, photography, graphics, etc. as part of my minor in college, it always baffled me that white ceilings were pushed as making a,room feel "taller." Because the basic color rules are that lighter colors project and darker ones recede. So, i used a,dark shiny semigloss taupe in my kitchen and dining room (most don't notice...i feel closed down on in my identical neighbors' houses with the "ceiling white." But hey, why stop there, I wanted to paint the master bedroom ceiling a green that reminded me of the trees outside. But ceiling drywall was so dry it soaked up the paint so to rescue it I used two different tones of taupes with some black Edge and a straw broom so that to me it looks like straw with Sky peeking through. Lots of people have commented on it usually the sentence begins with Wow or cool. In the upstairs hallway I painted the ceiling with another oops paint and navy blue and I let it be uneven so it looks like the sky at night minus the Stars. It's another place where people have made positive comments. We are getting ready to paint the ceiling in the hallway again because we just put in new attic access and the flat white makes the ceiling feel super low so it's getting yellow with a pearl overlay we'll see how that goes. Oh and I've never had to fight with the painter about the ceilings because I'm the painter.Cindynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6005324767450032096.post-49372683191670871442017-10-16T12:16:42.463-04:002017-10-16T12:16:42.463-04:00hi Anon, I answered Carolyn down below in the comm...hi Anon, I answered Carolyn down below in the comments. I think by stepping it up to a Semi-gloss it would be a more obvious (almost in your face) statement. While some rooms can handle that look (I've seen many semi, or high-gloss ceilings in magazines for example) I think most rooms would benefit from the understated Pearl. The transition from the sheen of the walls to the celing might be a bit much. <br />The Regal Select line uses zeri-VOC colorants making it a low-VOC paint and it comes in the Pearl finish. Or perhaps you could mix a flat or eggshell finish with the semi-gloss to get a Pearl finish?? I would ask BM about that if you were interested. Good luck!for the love of a househttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13151787635612708698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6005324767450032096.post-28608450319688864932012-12-03T05:27:22.137-05:002012-12-03T05:27:22.137-05:00Yes, thank you for sharing your "mistake!&quo...Yes, thank you for sharing your "mistake!" I come back to this post often thinking about how I'm going to paint my ceiling. I've been looking into this Benjamin Moore Pearl Finish. It looks like it is not (yet?) available in the No-VOC paints which only have the flat, eggshell, and semi-gloss. If you no-VOC was really important to you, do you think you could have lived with your ceilings being painted in semi-gloss or would that additional level of shine drive you nuts based on what you've experienced with the pearl finish? Just curious! Thanks!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11227777002013928904noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6005324767450032096.post-86202252922948330622012-07-23T12:23:07.728-04:002012-07-23T12:23:07.728-04:00Hi Joan
