The first thing that came to mind when I saw the room was the word 'restful'. I guess that's a good word for a bedroom, but it was beyond that - I saw 'rest' as in retreat, silence, peace, serenity. I like that you have left it relatively spare.
Joan, This is such a lovely guest bedroom. Any guest would feel the warmth and welcoming feel to this room. You seem to have a lot of natural light in your home. If I haven't mentioned it before, Happy New Year to you.
Like usual, everything is beautiful! Love that lamp next to the bed--I'm sure Dan worked his magic and came up with that beauty:) Beautifully done, Joan!
Another beautiful room Joan!! Do you have much snow there!? We are having our winter's share here in the Puget Sound!! Ice and snow = no power!! Thankfully it's been on for a while now! Have a wonderful weekend!!
You're going to think I'm nuts, but ALL day long, I've been texting my family and friends to ask if they have a specific looking basket for me to use for a photo shoot I have in mind. YOUR BASKET (by the bed) IS PERFECT!!! I SO wish I could just pop on over to your house and borrow it. Please oh please tell me that's not a one of a kind antique piece, and that I can just pick one up at my local Target? xoxo!
I love the room, Joan. The bedding is beautiful, especially the long pillow. I also like the idea of using an oversized quilt at the bottom of the bed...it works well if you have a queen size bed and can use a king quilt. The color of it is a favorite of mine. I have a nearly identical rug, except mine is smaller and I use it in my kitchen. It is lovely for guests that you have enough room to have a desk and chair in the room...AND a chandelier. It is all so elegant. All the best...Victoria
Just lovely! You seemed to be using the deep red as an accent color...something different than your other rooms. You always keep it interesting. Thanks for the inspiration.
Oh, how I want to make a reservation! Could it be for a weekend? I would love to follow you around and LEARN from you! This room is stunning. Did you make the bolsters on the bed??? Gorgeous. XO, Pinky
Ok, ok you convinced me. I agree to come up and stay with you, and this is the room I want. :) You have such a gift for creating a space with unique combinations. It is just warm and inviting. I love the little desk area you have set up. That is my fave. Thanks for sharing. Blessings, Barb
I am so excited to see another room. Everything you do is incredibily breathtaking. I would love to have just even one room look as beautiful. I wish I knew you so that could happen. Can't wait to see the details. best regards, wenda...maggieandme52@yahoo.com
So beautiful. I love the peacefulness. Everything is lovely, but I think you could have put almost anything on those floors and I still would have liked it. Those floors are gorgeous.
Any availability for extended stay this March? Gorgeous! I think I may have the same quilt - mine is in orange though. Did you get it at Soft Surroundings?
Is there any corner of your home that isn't absolutely drool-worthy? Love this room... the rug, the pillows, the art, the accessories, ah... and the lamp. Did you make that?
Once again you have amazed me. That room is so serene and inviting. I'm sure every piece has an interesting story. I could just feel myself sitting in that room, totally at peace.
So beautiful - very peaceful, too! You have so many special touches, but I think my favorite part is the antique chair at the desk. I want a chair just like that.... I know one day I am going to find one that I can redo. Again, the entire room is gorgeous!
A guest room dedicated to guests! My North guest room disappeared last year, when I acknowledged ts real function as storage. The South one is still in operation, but is just a bed insinuated in a room lined with bookshelves. --Road to Parnassus
Ohhh! Just love it all! I'm swooning over the bed pillows. So inspiring. I smiled when I saw the desk with the ottoman under it. I'm on the hunt for a console or table or desk to put next to my living room chair and be able to scoot the ottoman under it. I've been tweaking my first floor, painting most of the walls Benjamin Moore, Titanium after reviewing your paint list. Thank you for all the wonderful pictures!
What a pretty room. I especially love the white bedspread and the dainty little wooden chair in the corner. Thanks for sharing this room with us. Claudia
Beautiful room! I have been looking for floors exactly like the ones in this room! Are they reclaimed wood? Could you give me the details? Company, type, etc. Thanks so much!!
You have impeccable taste! I would love to know where you got the little round bedside table and the pretty grey? coverlet at the end of the bed. Also the paint color.
Joan, The mix of much loved and new is a winning combination, especially the way you always put things together. The new finish on the much loved bed frame is beautiful. And I want the long pillow - did you make the cover for it?
...i keep trying to get a better look at the pillow behind that long front pillow...is that a pillow made from a turkish rug...or is it tapestry...whatever...i love it...blessings laney
Joan, love the curtains! and how nice is it to have a desk in the guest room! this is my first comment on a blog with many more to follow. thanks for the response re: the miele. Darlene
Wow, wow and wow! I've lost track of all the things I love about this room. It is truly beautiful...a masterpiece. I can't wait to read the details. Thanks for the amazing photos!
How beautifully welcoming and generous Joan... as I know you are... How fortunate your friends are to share your home... Be careful... Your guests will never want to leave... xv
I'd like to make a reservation for 2, please! What a beautiful guest room, Joan ... anyone who steps foot in such a gorgeous space will *not* want to leave!
Seems as though there is going to be a line-up to stay in this bedroom! I do love it too! Your collections are amazing and your placement of each item is perfect! Love the balustrade lamp, bedding and the big wide pillow! 5 star!! :-)
What a lovely elegant, welcoming, cosy, stylish room - beautifully decorated and presented - looks so lived in and as though it just evolved magically rather than being contrived and overdecorated. You have such a skill for doing that.
What a perfect guest room...it looks like you've thought of everything. I love the painting above the bed and the desk is just gorgeous. A perfect reading lamp and tray to hold jewelry or whatever...even a rug as your feet hit the floor in the morning...oh and the bed linens are well...to die for. Your guests will never want to leave!
So restful. I particularly love the writing desk. I have one that's very similar made by Wright Table. Mine is distressed to look old; yours looks like the real thing.
Joan, As always, your style is so beautiful. I truly hope you and Dan are approached about creating a coffee table book of your home. I love to revisit the images as they always inspire me with ideas for my own home. Karen
The entire room is so peaceful and welcoming...just beautiful. But oh, my. Oh, my. I have been wanting to do a needlepoint bell pull (or two? or three?) from Elizabeth Bradley but wasn't sure how I'd use it once it was done. Now I know. Exactly! Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for your comment today because it led me here...how I was not following already I'll never know, because your house and blog are spectacular! I'll be stalking you now :) Stacy
