  12. Wow! Congratulations! Man, they only used one picture? They should have used tons. Your kitchen is lovely. Reminds me a bit of mine except I love your round table with the white chairs. I want to do that so bad.

  13. How exciting for you Joan!! It must be so surreal to see your kitchen photos all over the place. The pic with your table, fireplace and darling open door cabinet comes up on pinterest all the time. That is my absolute favorite photo.
I want your fridge so bad (seriously-we are shopping for a refrigerator and it appears this model is no longer available. Please tell me if you know differently).
So happy for you and your husband.

  16. Yay!! Way to go Joan! I'm so glad that you're getting the well deserved press, but I sure wish they'd send another magazine and a different photographer in to get new shots and other rooms! Where's Veranda or HouseBeautiful or Elle Decor? They're missing out on a spectacularly beautiful feature, I'm sure!

  17. Congrats! I couldn't think of a better kitchen to be included. Also, could you tell me where you found the metal scoops in your canister.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Kyla- the scoops are simply stainless measuring cups- a couple are one cup, another 1/2 c. and another 1/4 c. As I recall I bought two sets and separated them to use as scoops.

Kyla, I'm Joanie's 'much older (and sweeter) sister Susan'. I found some metal scoops for the glass canisters at Wal-Mart in the kitchen department a few years ago. As I recall they were in a clear package of three hanging on the wall with other small kitchen stuff.

  35. Congrats, Joan! A well-deserved recognition. Love your kitchen and used it as inspiration when we redid ours a little while ago. I copied your island pendants when I found a look-alike pair at our local ReStore. I had to have those "Joan lights." ;)

Here's a link to our kitchen post. I'd love for you to check it out sometime:)

  38. Joan, your beautiful kitchen is certainly being recognized by so many now. You should be so proud. I see the magazine staged a few things differently. I miss the basket on the island:) Joan, I'm wondering if you might consider a post on the details of choosing paint colors sometime. I think you have such a perfect eye. I would love to just copy what you have done with the paint in your home, but the blues and grays don't go as well in my home as the cream/brown/beige/green does. I'm considering the white dove for my new kitchen cabinets, but need to find a companion for the walls. I would love to see a post on how to choose companion colors. Is there any trick with the way the paints are numbered that you could share, or is it just your eye? Please tell me there are some tricks. Love your home. Thanks for sharing the inspiration with us.

    1. Thank you Vicki. I'm afraid that I don't know of any tricks, nor have I ever heard of any. While painting a room is a relatively simple and inexpensive design element, I think it is one that should take a lot of time and thought. Starting with how you want the room to look and feel. I see it often where designers post on-line design consultations, but I honestly don't know how someone picks a paint color without "standing in the room"- light is really important on how colors come off.
I would suggest visiting Maria Killam's wonderful blog- it is all about color and I bet you could find some tips there. http://www.mariakillam.com/

  39. I checked out the others.

And I still like yours the best.

And I know yours has the best view, too.

    Congratulations.

  40. Happy congratulations! It is such a beautiful, welcoming (and clean!) kitchen! Your choices on finishes and hardware are so wonderful because things aren't entirely matching: different countertops and hardware, similar, but not matching lamps - it all gives it a natural flow and ease that's comfortable in its elegant simplicity. I'd love to have every bit of this in my own kitchen!

  41. Oh wow, you must be thrilled!!! Your kitchen is beautiful! I love everything about it! You know, it's funny, a few days ago, my husband and I were at Trader Joe's in Nashua, and there was a man walking a dog, and the dog looked so familiar and finally it dawned on me, she looked just like your Ella! LOL!!!Were you guys at TJ's?

  43. Congratulations! What an honor, and well deserved. You have a beautiful kitchen. In my last comment I mentioned how I loved your green yellowware bowls and how I had never come across one. I found one last week! I was very excited!

  44. Looking through all the kitchens, the one thing that stands out about yours is -- the rest look like they were "designed to death". Yours looks like it evolved after careful consideration about how you would use your kitchen, with your personal (lovely) taste inserted. Like a real person loves and uses this kitchen. There's a fine line between the two, and you wisely did not cross it. Your kitchen is beautiful now and will be forever. And now, I will proceed to flatter you sincerely by copying it! ;-)

  45. I found your site one day, and bookmarked it, I didn't have time then for a read, but I'm so glad I saved it! Your kitchen, your photos, everything is just gorgeous. We will be building our dream home next year, and I will be coming back to your kitchen posts especially to get ideas. It is beautiful! I do have a question for you, is there anything you would change? You seem to have given everything extensive thought, but I wondered if you would do something differently now? Thank you for all the information, and inspiration!

    1. hi Luci- Thank you. I've been asked that question before, and I honestly can't think of a thing. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said that everything was extensively thought out. I put a great deal of time into "how" the kitchen would be used and what elements I wanted and where I wanted them- both for function/accessibility and visually- for example how is something seen when you walk into the room. I really wouldn't change a thing. Good luck with your new home!
