  3. Thank you and Thanksgiving blessings to you! Is your front door original to your home? It is lovely. Looking to replace the front door on the new to us vintage home we just purchased. Do not want the "big box store" look so think that means some reusing of old. The search is on.

    1. It is original to the house Sarah. It originally had etched glass, but that was removed before we bought the property. It just got a fresh coat of high gloss black earlier this fall! I'm with you on those 'big box store' doors- you can spot them a mile away;)

  5. Happy Thanksgiving to you, Dan and Ella too! My house will be full any minute now for the weekend. I am very grateful for that and for the blessings I have received since my husband passed away. Carrying on is not always easy but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. We have so much to be thankful for. xo

  15. Thanksgiving Blessings to you too! The lantern you have on your hall table is an exact match for my sidewalk lantern! I have it mounted on top of one of the original front porch posts of my 150 year old house, and it lights up my sidewalk made from reclaimed Baltimore City street bricks. Love it! Great minds think alike!

  20. Hoping you enjoy the holiday too. I love your glass spooners, I have a few some ( well one) has it's matching pitcher too. They always remind me of my maternal Grandmothers house there was one double handled cut glass spooner on the kitchen table with its oil cloth cover. There were different spoons in it . We all wanted the Charlie McCarty spoon. I have it now. Your home looks lovely again Happy Thanksgiving

There will be a total of 31 family members here tomorrow and would you believe that doesn't even include Ruth and her family!! Wait, it's now 32....my sister-in-law just called to see if she could bring her dog! I hope you, Dan and Ella have a beautiful day tomorrow. I'm so grateful for your blog and the joy it has given my extended family!

  31. This may seem like a very small thing, but I love the peak into the kitchen from the hall. I'm always trying to wrap my head around the layouts of people's houses (the floorplans you posted are very helpful for that) to understand how the spaces interact with each other. For some reason, I keep flipping your kitchen in my mind thinking that the eating area is closer to the barn room. Now I'm realizing that this comment is sounding really creepy stalkerish. Sorry about that. I totally don't mean it that way. You are safe from me. Although I'd love to come visit. Okay, I'm stopping now. Have a very happy Thanksgiving.

    1. ha! Trust me Julia, this is not a creepy comment;) I do the same thing too- trying to figure out the layout of someone's house! Yes, the kitchen dining table and the formal dining room share the same fireplace. The refrigerator is closer to the barn room.

  35. Hi Joan, without fail, every time I see your home I imagine living in it ;-) There are gorgeous houses and then there are gorgeous homes. Yours, to me, is all home. I want to drink coffee in the chairs by the fireplace.

  36. Hi, I started following you on Instagram and love your posts, especially the ones about your sweet dog, haha! I love your slipcovers on the dining chairs. I've always thought about using them, but worry about the dog hair that comes with having the four legged family members we love so much. Am I worrying for no reason? Thanks for sharing your home with all of us. It's always inspiring, Joycelyn

    1. hi Joycelyn, I'm afraid dog hair comes with the territory (i.e. the puppy love;) and I simply vacuum the covers when needed, which includes the sides as we'll love on her when sitting in the chairs and she'll lean against the side and voila... dog hair! Wouldn't trade it for the world though;)
