Fall in New Hampshire 2014

Helloooooooo!!!!!!
How are you?!  It has been a fabulous fall this year.  The colors have been brilliant and the weather wonderful!
Fall in New Hampshire is a three-month ceremony of constant change and beauty.  The light changes, the temperatures change, the smell of the air changes, the trees change, activities change from maintenance and upkeep in the yard to preparing physically and, more importantly, mentally for winter.
Fall is more than a season here, it is a spiritual ritual.

I'm working on a post to show you fall at the farmhouse this year, but until then I wanted to pop in and say hello, and share some photos taken at peak around Mount Monadnock.

I posted this recipe several years ago, but since many of you are new (and not all of you have read back through the entire blog, like so many of you "crazy-wonderful" peeps who tell me you just read the whole thing :) I thought I would share it again.
Do yourself a favor and make these!  They are sooooo good and taste like the essence of fall!

So good to see you again!

  1. Absolutely magical. I have just spent a weekend near the Blue Ridge and the colors were beginning and some were spectacular but not like this. Wonderful.

  6. Gorgeous tray for the muffins!

I'm curious about the person who would think that spray painting a rock with "enjoy" could actually enhance such a beautiful view of nature, aren't you?

  8. That recipe is fantastic! I made them last fall and let me tell you, they didn't last long. Really want to make some more but am trying to change eating habits, so I'm waiting - perhaps for Thanksgiving?

  12. Helloooooooo Joan, Dan, and Ella! So good to see you again, too! Loved seeing these photos. I have never seen such beautiful color! Everything is still green here with only the dogwood leaves beginning to turn. Off to check out your recipe. If you say those muffins are good, then they must be!

  14. As a former New Englander this is the time of the year when I miss it the most. Here in northern Georgia we get some color but this year has been a dud. It's been warm and dry for the last month and that doesn't make for a much of a Fall. I am making brisket and baked apples tonight...one can always dream...

  15. Was just thinking of you today - maybe it is all the pretty fall tree's around us that made me think of your scenic views. Hope all is good and serene for you, Dan and Ella.
The recipe looks like something I would enjoy - will give it a try.

  21. Hi Joan,
So nice to 'see' you again! Leaves are falling fast and wind is helping :-)
Met another NH blogger this week that is restoring a beautiful farm house in our neck of the woods and thought of you as soon as I discovered her.
Looking forward to your next post and I am enjoying this most beautiful fall myself.
    Fondly,
    -Lisa

  24. Hello Joan, That second photo is almost over-doing it in the making-us-jealous-of-Fall-in-New-Hampshire department. I'll have to wait until I go back to the U.S. to try the muffins; I have no source for canned pumpkin in Taiwan.

I was in Keene for the Pumpkin Festival and thought of you! Or rather, I thought of the farmhouse and wondered if you would post soon about all the changing colors of fall. So yay! Instagram is OK, but I appreciate a blog post with multiple pictures.
