A little big thing

After having a deconstructed house for so long every little accomplished project is a big thing! Some are very simple, but have a big impact. For example, Dan came up with the idea to put the old transom window that was between the kitchen and the ell above the pantry door. It was a great idea- very period and adds such charm! It has the original old wavy glass.

Before we took down the wall. Transom between the original kitchen and the ell.

Pantry door before the transom.

And after. Doesn't it look great?! And because there is a window in the pantry it brings in light to that corner of the kitchen. That husband... I think I'll keep him!!!

  2. Looks great. Clever hubby! I love transoms. No-one really gets them here in sunny Queensland, Australia. I have included them over all my doors and have 2 leading into my living room. A-M xx

  4. Please tell Dan that he chose the perfect placement for your original window. It is those little details that will make your home sing.
Happy Valentine's day, Joan to you and your Dan.

  6. Great use of original piece. Everytime you go over to open the pantry door you will think of Dan and his great idea. I love pantries... I used an old that was original to the house and painted it a beach blue. Makes me smile.

  9. Joanie, do you have a picture of the door to the washing machine room in the Dallas house? If so please show on your blog and tell the story. Didn't Dan put that leaded glass 'window' that y'all found, in the door? Your blogging friends will LOVE the story!!!
