ReplyDeleteWhen we rennovated our kitchen I did a little similar. I did add more color but I would have loved to have gone all black and white. I tried to talk DH into marble countertops but we compromised on Vermont soapstone and I did Zebra wood on my island. I did all glass front cabinets too and I love them. I also love the fact that you have a fireplace right there in your kitchen. It is FABULOUS!!!!! Can I come visit???

Oh I do love this! That's the classiest farmhouse kitchen I've ever seen! I was in awe of the kitchen in the movie "Somethings Gotta Give" and this has some of the same vibe...you have classic taste for sure! I really like the chandelier over the table and chairs, which I adore also! Boy I could just go on and on...I even love the picture hanging on the backside of cupboard door...the light fixtures....5 star rating for sure! You must be so pleased!

ReplyDeleteThis is my dream kitchen. I can honestly say this is one of the nicest kitchens I've ever seen...every bit as nice as you'd see in decorating magazines. This is gorgeous. I love every bit of it. Seeing your farmhouse sink makes me miss mine. You have such wonderful taste...very classy but also very homey too. This is a room I'd love to walk into in the morning...how could you not wake up in a good mood knowing you were going to cook in here! Thank you for sharing your kitchen with us. If homes could talk I think yours would say 'thank you' too! If your kitchen is this beautiful I have no doubt that what you are working on now will be just as lovely. ReplyDeleteYur kitchen is bigger than most NYC apartments, and so much more beautiful. What I love the most? The red knobs on the stove that are echoed in the carpet on the floor in front of it. I'm stealing that idea if you don't mind, though I am going to have to find a miniature Viking.
Such absolute style!!! Aaaah. I love that little cupboard that open above the drawers - the one with the calendar in it. Your finishings are timeless. Do enjoy!!!

ReplyDeleteI would have stayed up later if I knew you were going to post this...but then I wouldn't have been able to sleep! I have to agree with whomever said this is one of the nicest kitchen I have ever seen. I think I've noticed all the details, the different hardware, the beadboard ceiling, the different counter surfaces but at least I know I can back for reference. I love the little skirt under the sink to soften all the cabinetry, the rug.

ReplyDeleteJoan, I look at a lot of magazines and clearly this kitchen is one of the very best I have seen. I love it all. The brick in the fireplace has wonderful shades which works so well with your wood floors, the painted cabinets, hardware, and chandelier. By the way, the chandelier is amazing - I'm sure it is an antique. I love the dark wood round table which contrasts so beautifully with the white slip covered chairs. The bead board ceiling is great especially since you omitted all the can lights. I love the countertops - are the honed granite? I also love all the green plants with all the neutrals. You had a wonderful little lamp on the counter as well. I recently added a small light fixture in my kitchen and cannot believe how the light from this small fixture makes such a warm glow that can lights could never do. I am going to use some of your ideas when we move and I renovate our kitchen.

ReplyDeleteThank you for your nice comments! I LOVE that antique shop in Wells, Art was really nice, he was someone I felt totally comfortable with immediately. I also wanted every single thing in his shop. Good thing we had Cheddar with us and some friends or I would have filled our wagon up with no hesitation. We did have our "new" soapstone sink and two faux bois planters delivered last week from him. I did not get that lantern, my husband reminded me that we already have one very similar, an old gas lamp, that I got at auction in VT and had rewired hanging in our kitchen now.

Your home is magazine worthy! We are doing a minor face lift in our kitchen and are considering the glass front sub zero that you have. I love how it looks in your kitchen and have become more inspired to get that fridge! I wanted to know how you like it so far.... Also, could you tell me what type of countertops you have? Joan, I have been in love with your kitchen for a long time. I have many of the same or similar accent pieces that you have and know I want the complete look of a neutral/white kitchen. I am going to pretty much gut my entire space and am in the planning process of where to put what. If you have time, will you please tell me what your counter top depth is around the sink? I am drooling over your kitchen and breakfast area. As for those dreamy IKEA slipcovered armchairs, I know you said they are Henriksdal chairs, but are the slipcovers on them the white ones from IKEA too? Or do you have custom slipcovers on them? They are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, they are the white ones from Ikea. I bought extra slips thinking I would have them deconstructed to use as a pattern for custom ones, but I have been so pleased with the Ikea slips that I haven't had custom made. They are very well made and wash beautifully.

I haven't mentioned the name of the company on the blog because I didn't want to give them any press. I do NOT recommend them. Our b.a.d. contractor talked us into using Lepage Windwows and I would never use them again. They were very expensive, the quality is poor and the company was unpleasant, to say the least, to work with. We used Marvin window in the barn and we are VERY happy with them.

They were brass & you painted them black matte, but you did not saw where you found them. I'd like to purchase some so I wanted to know where you got them? I know you said you got the 2 iron handles at RH, but didn't know if you got the cute drawer pulls from RH also. I love the fancy curves on them it gives a cute flair compared to normal pulls. I found you through Gracious Spacious, you're kitchen is probably my all time favorite!:)

I have looked at your blog so many times! Your home truly is one of my favorites! We are renovating and I have gone with gray owl walls and dove white trim. It is time to paint the new cabinets and I have a few questions for you. I think I will continue on with dw for the cabinets. Big hold up on whether to go with a glazed look, or just a nice simple white cabinet. There is no glaze process in your cabinets is there? I think I have decided against a glaze treatment for fear it will be out of style soon? I think the plain white will be more of a timeless look. thanks for your reply :)
ReplyDeletehi anon- No, my cabinets are not glazed or lacquered. Unless you are doing a faux treatment of some kind I would NOT do a glaze. I always veer towards the "classic" as (like you mentioned) there is no fear that it will look dated within a year or two. I highly recommend simply painting. I used Benjamin Moore's Latex Satin Impervo and have been extremely happy with the product. In 4 years now of heavy use I don't have any chips on the cabinets. Best of luck with your renovation!

DeleteWould you mind if I ask you a couple of questions about your range? Do you LOVE the Wolf (translation: is it worth it?)? I would be going with a 36", so the options are 6 burners, 4 burners with a griddle, or 4 burners with a charbroiler. I lean toward 6 burners since I've never had the other two options available and wonder if I'd really use them. I can't tell if you have the griddle or charbroiler, but just curious if you find it actually useful, or if you tend to just set other pans on the cover sort of like extra counter space. I do cook A LOT, but we all get into the habit of doing things the way we have always done them, and I want to choose the most useful option. I wonder if one can "grill" indoors using the charbroiler in the wintertime. If so, I probably would do that. ;) Thanks so much for any tips and advice!
ReplyDeletehi Heather, I do love the Wolf, and for me it was worth it. I have the griddle. Like you, I was thinking I could grill indoors with during the winter and was going with the charbroiler up until the last minute when I realized what a mess that would be indoors! The smell, the splatter, the grease (from meats), etc. I really like and enjoy having the griddle- think panckaes, paninis, grilled cheese, french toast, eggs etc. You can cook flattened hamburgers/chicken, bacon, sausages etc. on it also, but I haven't done that yet. I would think about how much you'd really use the griddle. If I were getting the 36" it would be a difficult decision to go all burners or the griddle, that's how much I like it. Good luck!

I purchased a fridge that required a custom panel and one that didn't come with its own hardware, so that I could match both those elements to the island. DeleteI have white dove cabinets and black soapstone as well on my perimeter. I am searching for my island marble. I have seen the bianco venationo and it appears to be too white for the white dove cabinets. Are you finding the same in your home?
ReplyDeleteAs you can see in the photos I don't think my marble is too white for the cabinets. Being a natural product all slabs are going to vary depending on where the were quarried. Be sure to look at the slabs you are interested in in natural light (as opposed to inside a warehouse with fluorescent lighting). Have the slab forklifted to natural light if needed, to really see it.

Beautiful kitchen and floors! Do your wide plank pine floors have an eased, beveled edge like a prefinished floor or a square edge like on-site finished floors have? How have your floors held up to your dogs nails?

Can you give me more details on the size of posts you used and how did you attach the fence panel? Did you drill holes in the posts? Also from reading your details....you just made a "canel" for the fence to sit in? or how is it secured? The top of the railing is just a piece of wood that you painted? Thanks for any more info. It is the TC36- See-Thru. We have not had any problems with it. The glass is a bit of pain to clean, but that is Dan's job;) And it puts out a lot of heat!
