skunked.... the antiquing kind

No, not the real kind (thank goodness), but the antiquing kind! Over the last week, in the hunt for the perfect kitchen dining chandelier (think: antique, iron, at least five-arms, graceful lines...) we've been to: Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Maine.....
nothing!
I know it sometimes looks like we just decide what we are looking for, and go out and immediately find it, but we actually have to kiss a lot of toads in the process! And boy have we been kissing toads this past week!!

But, the good news is next week is Brimfield! We once stopped by Brimfield when we were up house-hunting, but have never been since we have lived in New England. (If anyone would like to share their favorite fields and/or shows I would love to hear which ones you like!)

Although we didn't find anything in the past week of shopping, we had a lot of fun and did see some beautiful sights! It was also our first trip to Rhode Island. Rhode Island marks the 26th state that Ella has visited! Ella wants to know: How many states have you been to?!

Hope you are having a good week. For those of you still suffering in the heat, Fall is definitely in the air here, so that means it's not long until it gets to you!!

  1. I think this time next year I might like to get away from this awful heat and hit Brimfield myself once and for all. Good luck as you continue your search!!
PS to Ella: exactly half as many as you... you're one travelin' doggie!

  2. I so want to do both Brimfield and Round Top! I am going to the Big DC Flea later this month with Eddie Ross, which ought to be a laugh!

  3. Hi Joan, Oh, Brimfield!!!!! I never did get there but heard many, many, many fabulous stories of scrumptious treasure finds! IAMSOEXCITEDFORYOU!!!! Can't wait to hear about it! And Ella is one lucky girl to see so many wonderful places. Lucy has only been to west coast states - she's a California native so she hasn't gotten far! She sends a 'wink' to Ella! Trina

  4. You'll find the perfect one. I know it. And remember all of those states put together hardly equal the size of Texas!!

    Have fun at brimfield...

  5. Sweet Ella, I have been to 48 states. Our family traveled like mad in my childhood. Some of the absolute best memories! On one outing we actually went to 21 states and Mexico. Weren't we a hoot in the Volkswagon van!

  6. I know what you mean. When we were doing our kitchen remodel it took me forever to find just what I wanted. I settled on Bell Jar lanterns over my island and found a two armed brass antique piece that was originally a gas piece that was made into electric. I was fortunate to have found a shop just north of me who deals in very old brass pieces and most often coming from old plantations.

I am now looking for an old piece to hang over my breakfast room table. It will turn up and the hunt is part of the fun as I'm sure it is for you.

    Good luck in Brimfield.

  7. Sounds like a lot of fun. Even if you don't find the chandelier, I'm sure you'll happen upon something that will look good in your beautiful house.

We're having nice and cool weather in the D.C. metro area and I love it. Somehow, though, I think we'll get a little more summer this year.

Have lots of fun antiquing and be sure to take lots of photos.

(My dogs have only been to about four or five states. I'm not going to tell them about Ella's travels.)

  8. Forgot to mention, we're taking all three dogs to the beach. That will be a new state for two of them.

  14. Have a wonderful time in Brimfield; I hope you find the perfect chandy. I enjoy looking for 'just the right' piece. Wow...Ella is quite the traveler. I have been to 26 states and enjoyed each of them! With this great weather, I know why we keep moving back to our home area. Cindy
