Happy New Year 2016 and Thank you !

Happy, Merry New Year to you!!!

I wish you health, love, joy and peace in 2016.
I hope that every single day you.....

Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.
Emerson

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your sweet, kind, wonderful, thoughtful comments on my Christmas "please leave your calling card" post.  Dan and I read each one- smiling, laughing, tearing up (me;), googling your towns, and just overall so genuinely touched by all the comments.

(I have tried to "reply" personally under each comment, but they do not show up.  I really want to respond to each one, but I can't.  If anyone knows how I can fix this blogger issue please leave a comment below or email me at: fortheloveofahouse@comcast.net.  I would greatly appreciate any help:)

Thank you for all the well wishes for a speedy recovery for Dan.  He is doing great and is off the crutches and is starting physical therapy today, for a couple of weeks, and then should be back to work.
I am so thankful that you one, read the blog, and two, so many of you are still here after all these years- still interested in the goings on around the farmhouse and in our lives, and for all the new followers/faces.
Thank you.

Since I have been writing the blog all these years now, I can struggle with what to write about.  Dan's comment to me after reading the comments from the Christmas post and on Instagram was that he noticed so many of you wished I would post more often.  I tend to only post when I think something has "meat" to it, and there are a lot of photographs, so as to not inundate your email box.  But maybe simple posts are okay??  In trying to figure out what it is you would like to see/hear/read about I realized that the best person to answer that is YOU!  What would you be interested in seeing on the blog in the upcoming year??!   I would love to hear from you- your suggestions for posts, requests, ideas, topics...  what you would like to see or have me write about or photograph.
I actually do have a nice list of posts to do for the next month or so, (and a big surprise or two :) but sometimes finding (taking) the time to write/post is difficult to do.  I greatly appreciate so many of you acknowledging the time/energy it takes to write the blog.  That meant so much.
Again, thank you.

Please talk amongst yourselves;) and let me know your suggestions, ideas, requests, etc!!  Okay?!!!!
Can't wait to hear from you!

  1. Oh, Joan - simple posts are perfect. Some blogs i read strictly for information purposes, but most blogs i continue to read year after year because it is like a conversation with the writer. I read because I enjoy your words and photographs. ♥

  2. Totally understand, and I've been neglecting my blog as well. I will say that I appreciate having the longer posts full of pictures only come occasionally, but I otherwise enjoy very short (maybe 1 picture!) posts that are more often with quick updates.

  3. Oh please, oh please post more often! I can only imagine how much time and effort posting takes because yours are always so fabulous but you certainly don't have to wait for "big" events. I think I can safely speak for your other readers that we just love seeing what is happening at your wonderful home. (not to mention those three adorable puppies)
Hope Dan continues to heal and feel better. Happy New Year!

  4. Not sure how to fix your blogger issue!!

Maybe entertaining posts- tips and tricks for antiquing successfully or recipes? I love your home, and I remember a few of your detailed posts years ago about living in New England, and I remember a kitchen organizing post...

Maybe I'm a bad follower and don't remember other things- but I love how you exude warmth and cheerfulness in your writing. You've, in large, made me feel in love with your side of the country- and I hope this fall I get to finally visit!!! (Never have been!)

Anyways- you have a lovely home, and love how you and Dan always seem to work together!!!

Thank you for choosing to share a little of your home, doggies and life with blog land!!!!

Happy New Year, and hope Dan gets all better soon :)

  5. Hi Joan. Happy New Year to you! Yes, I'd love to see more posts, and simple is just fine with me. I've mentioned it before, but I'd love to see some photos of the food you make and recipes. Also, this goes without saying, but more dog posts would always be welcome. I agree, it can be hard to find time to create posts, but short posts are also exciting for us to read. I hope you have a wonderful 2016, and I look forward to hearing more from you!

P.S. So glad to hear Dan is on the mend. Best wishes to him!

  6. Joan,
So glad Dan is feeling better! Such a scare. I did not have a chance to respond to your New Year's post, but feel I must write now. I cannot imagine how much time your posts must take, but please know that many of us look forward to each and every one. I honestly look forward to each photo on instagram. You have such a wealth of knowledge of what to look for and how to put it together. I glean information from everything you offer! I feel that I used to have "experts" to learn from, but after many, many moves - it is difficult to find those people now. I welcome your big posts and your little bits of knowledge passed on and shared. Thank you for continuing to do be willing to share.
Best of health to you both and I just love those 3 precious (very blessed) doggies!

  7. Hi .. Suddenly with no warning, I am not able to post comments on any blogs unless I use Safari instead of Google Chrome. If anyone knows how to fix that, tell me please.
But some blogs are worth switching from Chrome to Safari to answer .... like this blog :)
My favorite blogs usually have photos of homes, gardens, pets and stories about those things ... I live up in the North Land similar to where you are ... probably closer than I realize .. it is hard in winter to think of anything to blog.
I try not to talk about the cats too much, but they are who I live with ~ :)
I have plans for this coming year .. I would love to hear about other peoples plans.
I love recipes, I love decorating and I love your blogs so I would not pressure you to do anything until you feel like it. Something will just make you sit down and write .. that will be fine. Love

  8. Yes, yes, yes to simple posts. Your lifestyle and writing are so lovely. I am always inspired by what you post. Even the simple ones. Happy new year to you, Dan, and the girls.

  9. Maybe if the posts were short and simple it would be less work for you? I don't know because I'm only a reader, not a blogger. I like your antiquing, organization and decorating posts and the ones about the events you work on. Also as a new empty nester anything on this new to us season would be fun. Hope Dan gets better quickly. Pamela

  10. Simple posts would be warmly welcomed! I love reading your blog as it has helped me identify the decor & lifestyle fit for my family as I have grown up through the years. When I began reading years and years ago - I was a young 23 year old newlywed married in June of 08. I loved your inspiration, design eye, felt an instant connection as I live in Texas, and loved of your tales of antiquing and the unique pieces that truly define your home. Even though I am much older now ;), I often reference the same posts about your pots and pans, products you cannot live without, and I kid you not monthly link to certain posts just to see your beautiful seasons we are lacking here in Texas. Anytime you want to write a note, just know, your virtual friends are hear to listen and love the conversations we have.

    1. Oh my gosh, I am the wrong one to ask because I love it all!!! Your home décor, your cooking, your beloved "girls", the yard and the vignette displays. I cannot get enough of your very special charm. It reminds me of Dee Hardee and Thornhill farm years ago. She was my favorite writer on the last page of every House Beautiful magazine.
Happy New Year and thank you for including us in your life.

  12. Sorry I meant to leave my calling card, but holidays got a bit hectic. Happy new year to you, Dan and the sweet puppies. Love all things New England, so more posts on antiquing, great local finds and the pups would be great fun to read. Thanks for writing. All my best, Anne

  13. Hi there. I miss your regular blog posts, so I would love to see you post more often, and I don't mind a bit if they are more simple. And as much as I love seeing your beautiful home, I don't need to see a ton of pictures, as I assume that editing and posting them is time-consuming. As far as content, I also enjoy your posts on decor and lifestyle. But I think some of my favorites are when you went through your kitchen cabinets. And I love hearing about your New England lifestyle. And of course, it's fun to hear about your girls! I always remember you taking the time for an email "discussion" about fireplaces...it was so kind of you to reply and help me out. Glad to hear that Dan is recovering!

  14. Short post would be great for me.....I just enjoy reading about what goes on in your life and seeing pictures of your beautiful home and property. I didn't get to leave a message during Christmas but I will tell you now....I live outside of a small town in MS.....Pachuta. I live in a gated community on a 750 acre lake. It's very quiet and peaceful.....much too quiet for me but my husband really loves this place as he's a big fisherman....me...not so much. However, I've decided this is the place I will live out my life so I've adjusted to the area as best as I can. Anyway, that will give you an idea of where I've sending this comment from.....Happy New Year to you and Dan and your beautiful doggies.

  15. Simple post are fine, even Instagram post are wonderful as "we" your readers are so nosy, or as Pittsburgher's would say nebby. Since we have have already seen your "drawers" how about the attic, treasure room, loft, mudroom next to the kitchen, or even the basement? I love the post you do not only about your home but anything to do with New England. I find them fascinating, inspiring and have read them all at least twice. So post about anywhere you go to in New England is wonderful as it's a sort of "personal" travel guide. When we don't hear from you on Instagram or the blog we all start wondering were you have been. As for blogger, it doesn't seem to be happy with Chrome and Windows 10. Can't wait to see what surprises you have in store for us in 2016. Happy New Year! Nathan

  16. Your life where you live is so different to mine in Sydney so simple posts about everyday life are always nice. For example, we never get snow so I don't know what that's like to live with. It gives people in other parts of the world a taste of your community. Also love the posts about your dogs and your beautiful home.

  17. YES! I would love to read any an all posts. My heart skips a beat when I see "For The Love of a House" in my inbox. :) I love your knowledge of antiques and love love to see pictures of your home and when you are cooking. You have the most beautiful classic home I have ever seen (through pictures). I am just a reader and honestly can't imagine how much time a blog post takes, so it is selfish on my part to ask for more, but anything you are willing to share, I would love to read and enjoy. Happy New Year to you and your husband. I'm so happy to hear he is gaining strength. My husband too was injured in the fall. He had a "run in" with a heifer and tore his quadricep muscle away from the bone. It was a big surgery and has been a slow healing process. He too starts rehab today. I'm so thankful my husband and your husband too will return to good health soon. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home Joan.

  20. Well Joan, I have commented here a couple of times, but not during the holiday calling card times. I do want to let you know that I, too woud love to see more posts from you. Simple is great - and I would love to hear about your ramblings around your environs...walks in nature with your girls, other historic houses, antiques shops you frequent, some of your guiding design values, restaurants you visit. One thing I love about you is that there is always a backstory to your choices regarding all/most aspects of your life and I share this tendency as well. So why do you choose a restaurant? Is it in an historic structure? What is the history, if you know it (you know you do):) Why do you walk where you do, what neighboring towns intrigue you...that kind of stuff!

    warmly, Ann

  25. I'm glad to hear Dan is doing well and hope for a continued good recovery for him. Every time you don't post for a while, I worry that you have given it up. I love every photo you post and one every day of somewhere in your house or property would still not be enough for me. I have thought when you have posted a photo and there was a large piece in the photo full of your treasures, that I would love for you to open the doors of that piece and share details/pictures of all of those pieces. I also appreciate the time you take for your posts and would be so sad if you stopped. Best Regards, Wenda

  26. Joan, I just realized that I never "left my calling card" after your earlier post -- so here it is! I am a long-time reader of your blog and always smile and say a little "Oh yay!" when I get an email notice of a new post! Though I don't post comments often, I have loved following not only the progress on your beautiful house, but your adventures (and heartbreaks) with your sweet dogs and all the other wonderful stories you have shared with us. So please -- inundate my inbox! I know, though, what you mean about the time and energy it takes. Your posts are not just written -- they are crafted -- and the time you take to do that allows your readers to almost hear your voice in your posts. It's really wonderful :) As to your question about simple posts, yes! I love the long ones, but love the shorter ones, too. As for topics, as others have mentioned I always love recipes (oh, how I would love to cook in that kitchen of yours!), and maybe more pictures/posts about sights/places around your area, and your favorite things lists -- love those.

But, because you have allowed us to come along with you on this journey, know that those of us who follow you think of you as a friend, so don't feel pressure to come up with something meaty -- a good friend is always happy to hear from you even if it's just to say "hey"!

I don't want to close without saying how sorry I was to hear about Dan's accident. I am glad to know he is feeling better! Take care and thank you for your blog.

  27. Happy New Year. I just thought you should know that I don't have many blogs that I can read and share with my husband. We both enjoy yours almost equally and would LOVE to have more. I guess that makes us 2 fans for the price of one. BTW, you should know that your posts about Amelia will never be forgotten, her life story was so very touching. We both still get choked up when we share story of the "signs" which brought you together. It takes a very talented writer to effect readers in that manner. So...please, please, please keep 'em coming.

  29. While your long posts are so wonderful, I would hope everyone understands that involves so much work and time. Any little change in, or just one or two photos of, that gorgeous farm house would be heartily enjoyed by me. Or perhaps even a couple of cute puppy pics. Most importantly do exactly what you enjoy and makes you happy!

  30. Oh, how I would LOVE to see you blog more!! I would be happy to see photos of your lovely home and property throughout the seasons. Your attention to detail is fabulous and I always enjoy reading how you found each item in your beautiful home. Of course you don't want it to become a job, but just short posts about individual items instead of a whole room would make me happy! :) And of course little daily things, walks with your beautiful scenery, simple dinners with your dishes, and of course little snippets of your dogs!! Haha, I think I would read anything you posted Joan! ;) :D

  31. Short posts are good; long ones even better! I'll take whatever you will write. I can't tell you how many times I have reread your kitchen drawers posts! I love to see how you arrange things on your counter tops and side tables. The dog stories are wonderful and I could read those everyday! I guess I am a voyeur and your blog is my favorite! Thank you for sharing.

  32. Whatever you write is fine with me....I tend to ignore those posts that come several times a week...sadly.

I, too, live in Dallas. Born and raised here, but spent ten wonderful years in Ohio. I know what you mean about feeling like you're home. That's how I feel the farther here East I go. A past life, perhaps?? I get to live vicariously thru you, so please keep sending photos. Your home is my favorite! Brava!

  34. Anything you write would be welcome. because I live in the Houston area in the winter, and at our little NH hill town in the summer...I feel a connection. Through you and your wonderful posts, I gifted everyone with Nelson's candy this year, try to buy as many of your favorite list items as possible... Either here or there...and get inspiration every day. When we rebuilt our NH "camp" now almost 6 years ago, you inspired me to go lighter...not "adirondacky"....is that a word? And we live near Magnolia! TX, and I have an interesting story I LIKE to think is true about a rescue pups.
You are my favorite blogger, Blessing for a new year filled with healing for your husband, joy and peace for you, and safety and comfort for those puppies...and the joy of seeing my beloved NH

  35. I always enjoy reading your posts. I like simple- works for me. I enjoy reading about the little things you do like getting maple syrup or walking in the woods and finding old bottles. I don't want to add another thing to my list of things I do with my cell phone or computer so I haven't kept up with things like Instagram.
Good to know Dan is recovering so well. I cringed at the story- especially since my Dan has gone up on the roof here more than once and I always worry each time. What a shock to the body! Good to know you'll be posting more often again. I was curious how the hydrangeas had worked out on the side by the driveway. Couldn't remember if you had ever posted about them.
    Take care, Liz

  36. Joan, see how Susan (on Jan 4th) wrote a note to you and Diane clicked on the reply below her comment instead of making a new comment.... that is how you reply. It will show up as your identity with a note to the first comment. You do that for each one.

Love your blog because it's about all the romance of living a normal life. Think of it as a phone call to a friend and bringing them up to date with the latest that is going on. I will admit it's easier said than done, I'm so guilty of wanting to have something meaty to write and fussing with pictures. Thus my infrequent posts.
One thing that Sharon Santoni does on her blog (My French Country Home) is write posts just about the pups. And they have their own instagram too. Now that you have three babies in your house, I'm sure there is much mischief to share.
You always have something different to share - a new vignette, something about the garden. With your eye for design it would be nice to have your thoughts on acquiring classic furnishings/pieces, collecting, balancing the a rooms decor (something many people have difficulty with), and laying out a garden plan. Ha - see, I have lot's of idea's for everyone else but stumble with my own.
It's always a good day to open my email and see you have listed a new blog post.

I hope Dan is feeling better each day.

    Hugs

  38. I've always loved your post, and have been very jealous as you and Dan did what I've always wanted to do, move from the south to New England and restore an old home. Therefore, just everyday life in New Hampshire is fascinating to me! I also love your style, how you find your treasures, repurpose others, and then there is the yard/garden which I love! So I fall in the camp of the more blog posts the better! Thank you! So glad Dan is doing better!

  39. My dear Joan, yours was the first blog I ever read, can't remember how I stumbled on you. You introduced me to a wonderful world. I am an Aussie living in HK and love to renovate. You have such a lovely talent, passion and easy style with your blog, so aptly named. I love to read whatever you write. I have just found my way with Instagram (not tech savvy) but love how it works and have enjoyed your thread there. I would love for you to renovate ANOTHER house! You have a gift. In my humble opinion your blog is number 1. Love to you and gorgeous Dan and your 3 babies. Best wishes Lillian xxx

I enjoy your posts whenever they come my way - I leave that entirely up to you! I enjoy every single one . . .

**I have to comment on your pics of your girls and their mufflers! My husband and I looked at each other and said 'can you imagine?" - out of the seven, maybe two dogs would even keep the muffler on and sit still for a picture? Forget it:)

  42. Happy New Year, Joan! I didn't comment on the calling card post, as I've done so for several years and think you're probably more interested in your "newer" readers than this old girl. :) Your blog is a delight in my inbox every time, so I would say short and simple posts are welcome! I have a blog as well, and I struggle with the same things... there's only so much creative energy, projects, new design ideas, etc one can share! But I'd love to know what you and Dan are reading (books? magazines? other blogs?), see some day to day around that wonderful farmhouse, know what you're cooking for supper, what wines do you enjoy? Just simple things... and of course, dogs! So thankful Dan is on the road to recovery. I know you'll be monitoring his progress closely! Sending love and blessings for the New Year from Marietta, GA... xo Heidi

Outdoor scenery around your home and surrounding areas in winter, spring, summer, and fall (I've always dreamed of leaving the South to live up North). Home decor (really love looking at all of your decor and have used some of your ideas in my own home). What you like to cook, with recipes (I'm determined to try different recipes). Reading recommendations (love to read). One picture or 20 per post! All are welcomed. Speedy recovery to Dan and, a happy, healthy, and safe 2016 to both of you.

  53. I'm with many others.....I love your posts because they are so well thought-out. More would be fun, but I appreciate that you are never trying to sell something. Shorter sometimes is fine. I remember your drawer post and was surprised how many other people mentioned it. It inspired me to find baskets and tins to organize new drawers we had just put in. A guest (male) recently said he'd never seen such well-organized drawers and I do feel good when I look inside. Looking forward to whatever you have in mind to share this year. Thanks for taking the time to connect. Marken

  55. It's so funny, the first thing that came to mind was your drawer post. And I see others have mentioned it too. I appreciate the time and effort that goes into a blog. And can honestly say that it is those litte things that I enjoy the most. That's the beauty of a blog, those "behind the scenes" information and stories that one doesn't get in glossy magazines. So yes, please(!) more posts. I love ideas on food and entertaining. And would love to learn more about how you organize the little things in your beautiful home. For instance, right now I am on a personal quest to find prettier containers for dish soap, shampoo, etc.. so if you have any ideas, I'd love to see them.

  56. JUST SO YOU KNOW! I did not receive many of your posts.....who knows why?

  57. I didn't read the comments so maybe people have said this already but here's my two cents - I check your blog every morning. I have a ton of blogs that I read and every morning I have my one cup of coffee and two graham crackers and read blogs. It doesn't take all that long because none of the bloggers posts every day. It is very disappointing when I check and there isn't a new post. It's especially disappointing when I check and there isn't a new post for weeks. I would say small posts are always better than nothing. You certainly don't have to wait for a meaty subject - I think I would love to read about the dogs, or a shopping trip, a diy - heck, anything. We read your blog because we've grown to feel like we know you and Dan and we care, so anything you do to make us know you better is good for us. I also think most of us love diy so if you are into crafty things - share with us!!! Anything I can do to make my house look even a fraction like yours is good for me. Happy New Year!!

  58. Glad Dan is on the mend. I enjoy reading anything you post! Have enjoyed them so much. Just write on anything, I will love reading it all!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who lives a bit vicariously through you, as you two (plus fur family) have managed to pull off so successfully a move of my dreams (I live in Atlanta, GA, and have fantasies of a rural, New England life). I'd be thrilled to see more brief glimpses into your daily goings-on. All best wishes . . . Rie.

  61. I'm a long-time reader of your blog and, amid the fray of the holidays, I missed the calling card post at that time, so a quick update: I'm in upstate NY (near VT/MA border) and have commented here on rare occasion. I'm also a writer, so I know challenging finding the time and inspiration to post can be. I find my favorite blogs (of which yours is one) always have lovely photos, so even if you can't think of a word to write, some pretty photos of things that appeal to you can, indeed, be worth a thousand words, even if just for their own sake. Post as often as you like about whatever you wish, though, of course, more is always a treat read/view from this end. (The girls are always a winner!) Glad Dan is improving and you have had so much nice response to this and your earlier post. Happy New Year!

  62. I live on a Kansas farm and have followed for some time. Just know that I would wait a year for each one of your posts. I love your peaceful quiet way! Your blog is my very favorite and I am always so excited to see the way you make everyday life beautiful. Some of my favorite posts were how you go about lighting candles in the evening, your kitchen drawers, your favorite products and your antique finds and how you use them! I'd love to know your design thoughts about how you made the big barn room so cozy as big rooms sometimes are difficult for me. I also loved to hear what little changes you've done in some of the earlier rooms that keep them fresh and updated like the new table in the library. If it's not too much--Just keep sharing your life and gift of beautifully living with us, we will be waiting!

  64. So pleased that Dan is doing well. As far as your posts go....I appreciate anything you have to say... you are truly a lovely family and I am so grateful for whatever you choose to write. I trust you and your ethic. It is of course a joy when you are full of inspiration and share with us. The most important thing is the purity of your personal style. I'm a true fan and will enjoy whatever you care to share. Please give Dan all my best for his well being. Happy New Year!

  65. I'm so glad Dan is doing better. I really enjoy your posts and the pictures but they do take so much time to put together. Short posts would be just as enjoyable, I especially like your sharing where & how you find all your fabulous treasures.

  66. I am guilty...I have been an adoring reader for sometime but too untechno and shy to create an account and write - but your calling card post was so beautiful it has led me here. Joan, thank you so much for allowing us to look into the pure and gorgeous life you lead. I promise to write more. Look forward to your posts sooo much xxxooxx

  67. Happy new year to you, Dan, and your canine family. I love love love your blog. I too wish you would post more often - you've mentioned you sometimes take on assignments from other people - could you post about some of that work? Also would love to see your home office - you must have at least one! How do you maintain antique textiles, furniture, books? What about more posts about cooking for two? Since it seems to be just the two of you what do you keep on hand for when friends drop by (I never even have a cookie in the house!) Flower arranging and plant maintenance are always a challenge. What are your favorite books on design and decoration? I think you have a lot to say, a wonderful eye, and I don't think you need to have such long posts, although I always enjoy them too. Just a quick post about your preferred writing paper or table setting for lunch with a girl friend, new products, candle maintenance. For example, when we painted our house a few years ago and saw all the soot on the wall from candles we went to all battery operated candles. Our son thinks we're philistines but I don't want to breathe soot anymore. What's your opinion? I hope this is helpful and please don't ever give up on your wonderful blog.

  69. I have been a follower of your blog and look forward to your thoughts. For me short posts are maybe even better since sometimes I am in a rush so have limited time to read a longer blog. I feel like I am sharing with a friend when I read a blog so I am interested in what has been happening with you ie the weather, cooking, home decorating, things happening in your community, flea markets, garage sales, books you have read, movies seen, just really the things that girl friends might talk to each other about.

  71. I enjoy everything you share, and yes, would love to read as often as you have time to post. Just sharing your lovely home and life is truly interesting. You are an excellent writer and definitely have an eye for beautiful design.
Glad to know that Dan is doing better. Happy New Year!

  72. I live in (stuck in) Lodi, California. My daughter has been living in Boston for two years. While visiting there last spring we drove to her in-laws in Maine, oh what beautiful country. I was so, so very thrilled as we past on a wooded quite country road an establishment that I recognized from your blog. I screeched out "Wait, wait, turn around, there, there, we have to go to the Ice Cream stand that I read about and recognize from my favorite blog." Yep there it was, without even looking for it. It was a favorite memory of the trip. I would love to hear of places to go visit, gardens, shops, ways of shopping for collectables. I am considering moving to the area so this would be so helpful to explore the area via your suggestions. Thank you so much for your angelic energy you bestow upon us. Carol

  73. I'm glad to hear Dan is well on the road to recovery. I'm sure this little bit of white weather has been teasing him. I love seeing any post from you, instagram or blog. A picture(s) and a few words would be great. I love seeing the posts when you are out and about in New England, miss my trips up north now that our daughter, son-in-law and grandson have moved south. I wish you both health and happiness in the New Year! (favorite instagram photo was of the three dogs running in the snow, made my heart smile!)

  74. Well, Joan, you know that I adore your home and your style! I'd never tire of seeing things you do in your home, even if it's a small vignette change. I also love your post on the things you can't live without- which a lot have become things I can't live without now! The salt you talked about is not available anywhere around here, so when we went to Florida I looked there and found it. I brought 4 containers home with me! You could post about how you stand on your head three times a day and I would find it fascinating!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Yes I would love to see more "everyday" simple posts showing what you and your husband and pups do- I love seeing you guys go for walks, go to shops etc. Personally I enjoy seeing shots and snippets of you out and about in New Hampshire doing your ordinary but fabulous everyday things!

  76. Happy New Year! Glad Dan is on the mend - what a scare! I completely agree that blogging can take a lot of time and effort and even when I want to write, I often don't feel I have the time to actually sit down and do it! I appreciate all the time you put into your posts and your willingness to share your life with us!
As many others have expressed, I just love seeing your beautiful home and property. There is something about New England that just speaks to my soul. My favorite posts of yours from the past have been informational posts about products and materials you have used in your home. For example, your posts on marble (and what products you use to clean it), soapstone, wood flooring and finishes, and even things like the witch hazel you use! My husband and I are in the process of remodeling our home. I, like you, am very much a researcher, but sometimes it gets exhausting starting from square one with research on every material option! That's why I love your posts so much! You're so thorough, just like me, I feel like I can trust all the legwork you've done and your experience with a product. I would love some follow-up posts as to how materials are holding up, maintenance for the tung oil finish for the floors, etc. I'd also be interested in whether you have any other products/appliances, etc that you have used for awhile and love. Just today I spent hours researching food processors because I use mine frequently and the plastic housing keeps breaking! So even simple things like "I love this toaster and it's lasted for years," are interesting posts for me because I know you value quality and beauty like I do, and I don't worry that it's a biased or solicited review like I might find on a random website. My passions are home decor and design, gardening, cooking, and writing, so we have a lot in common, and I enjoy reading about your experience in these areas.
    Many blessings to you!
    Heather

  77. Joan, I love your blog posts because you put so much heart into them. When it's been a while between posts I imagine that life has happily put your focus elsewhere. I love that your blog is friendly, informative, endearing and heart wrenching (not all at once of course). I am glad Dan is on the mend and has the fur kids (and their mom) to aid in his recovery. I'm thankful this winter has been relatively mild and that clearing the snow hasn't been overwhelming. I thank you for sharing life on the farm with us and especially how the girls came to be a part of your family. I honestly don't know who is more blessed, you or them.
    Regards,

  79. I am just happy any time you post an update. Though, I do love hearing about what the girls are up to, and all about your property and the beautiful area you live in. Any post you do always makes me happy when I read it, and I feel like I am there in person amidst the flora and fauna. Having never been to that area, I feel like I am taking a virtual mini vacation there. :) So very thankful to hear that your husband is doing so well...God is so very good! Have a beautiful day there...here in Lubbock, we are experiencing cold, snow, high winds...but...so much beauty to be seen everywhere...especially all the migrating geese...thousands of them at our local playa...a lovely cacophony every day as they sing their traveling 'songs'. West Texas has its' drawback, but, we have to admit, there is beauty here also. Take Care Now!

  81. I'm so happy to hear Dan is on the mend and starting physical therapy. I know the accident was very scary, I remember when my husband fell while trimming our large oak tree in our front yard a few years ago. Thank goodness he only had a few scraps, bruises and sore muscles. He's a lot like Dan in a lot of ways, he likes to do all the work himself and not depend upon someone else. He doesn't trim the trees any longer since he fall, now he hires someone to trim the trees only, then he cuts up the large limbs and branches and save them for later use.
I love all your post and look forward to seeing a new one in my mail box, since you don't post daily it is always a treat when you do. I actually save your post and revisit them occasionally. Wishing you, Dan and the girls blessing for the New Year.

I would love to see pictures and read about the day trips you go on or perhaps just a feature blog about a store, place, or community near you that you like and would like to share with all of us. I understand it all takes time, but I so enjoy your blog!!!

  83. Very glad Dan is recuperating. That was a scary thing, to fall that far.

Here's my first post on your blog, which I have devoured over the past few months. Subjects that I would love to read about? History of any kind, including your town, your community, New Hampshire; ordinary people who you've gotten to know, and how you have been received by your new neighbors and fellow New England citizens; best places to visit, great shopping, eating, viewing experiences; any issues you've faced having moved to such a different part of the country. Honestly, your ability to convey your experiences in such wonderfully descriptive terms is a truly enjoyable experience for me; and I especially love anything having to do with your home, garden, and the girls! So, please do write more when you can.

  84. I can't even figure out how to post as anything except anonymous. Love your style, your home and your "voice." I've pinned all your pictures, probably more than once. You have a gift for storytelling and I love hearing about your girls and your experiences. I would love to see more posts. Maybe posts about where you like to go to antique or the villages and places in your area of the country that you enjoy. I so love the east coast and want to see even more. Looking forard to more posts in 2016.

  85. I enjoy ALL your posts! Every single one. But, I have often wondered how you developed your design style - your particular "look" that we see reflected in your lovely home. I often come across LOTS of things - maybe of a variety of styles - that I like. It might be something rustic - or something refined. Maybe a bit country - maybe more contemporary. So, I wonder how did you develop & refine your eye, your design style? Do you sometimes see things you like, but you don't bring them home because you "know" they won't fit in? Was your style ever very different than it is now? How has it evolved over time? And, how would you describe your particular design style? Maybe that is too many questions - and confusing. But, I would love to read about the origins & development of your design style.

So glad your husband is doing well. And, thanks for ALL your lovely blog posts. Each one is a pleasure.

  86. I am easy to please. Stand with your camera, spin on your toes (carefully) land, point, shoot and post. I'm sure it will be lovely. :)

I also appreciate anything with the girls. I think their life and their story is a wonderful influence on people considering rescuing a dog.

  87. Hi Joan:

Late to the party, again. Been so busy working. Glad to hear Dan is recovering well. Being new to New England myself (well, ten years now), I would like to see posts on places you have visited, i.e., like Juanita's restaurant you spoke of recently. Still trying to get to Swanzey's for pancakes. I have similar interests like you, home, gardening, antiques, etc. But I like to know of other places to visit that you may have seen that we could also go to, anywhere in New England. I enjoy tractor posts, for my husband, since he has one, too. All landscaping/gardening stories. We are considering New Hampshire for retirement, whenever that will be!!, but I am still loving Vermont also. Anyway, it seems many of us out here enjoy your stories. Thanks, Joan. Stay well.

  89. Happy New Year to you, Joan, Dan and the Girls! I completely understand this post ... During the renovation of your lovely home there was so much to share. You graciously opened your doors (and drawers!) to share so many fabulous things with us. Please, continue to share! I admire that you aren't constantly changing your decor, when you get it sooooo right. Why would you? I am a self admitted addict to home decor blogs. In this land of white or super light decor and newly purchased, mass produced everything .... Oh, how your home is our very favorite!!! I've learned so much from you, even in the small details. We actually get a glimpse into your home, seeing entire rooms in all their glory - not simply a lovely photo of a small vignette or vase of flowers tucked in a corner. I'm growing so weary of wonderful photography, NOT true design and decor. Please don't feel that you have to WOW us with every post ... Truth is - you always do, even in the simple daily moments. Your warm and welcoming home takes our breath away. Please continue to share often!

  90. I'm so happy that you brought up this "conversation." I always look so forward to your honest insight into making a home, beautiful and timeless. Count me among those getting bored and frustrated with the trend of overuse of crystal chandeliers, shaggy rugs and pillows and wooden tiered trays that "everyone and their mother" seem to have. I love that your home and style stands alone, as uniquely yours. I have a few topics that I would love to see you address. As silly as they may seem. 1. Paint colors. In your home, which is your favorite paint color? Do you ever find yourself missing the deep reds and darker colors that were used in your Dallas home? Going forward, do you anticipate keeping your color palette lighter? 2. Light switch covers. Yes, this may sound silly - we are currently repainting and I am not noticing as many decorative light switch covers. It seems that now, the look is to have them blend far more. What are your thoughts? 3.Bed linens - what are your favorites? 4. Window cleaning - how often do you clean yours and how? 5. - Dinners. Do you and Dan always eat in the kitchen when alone? Do you ever venture to the barn room to eat? 6. I respect that you keep good furniture for a long time. Is there a certain piece of furniture that you find yourself seeing in your future? If so, what? A new sofa? Just curious! 7. What was the biggest challenge in picking up and moving to a state so far away? Do you see old friends and family often? How do you spend your time when Dan is working away? 8. Cleaning products and organizing tips. 9. Your view on the painted furniture trend. I could go on and on - some of my favorite posts of yours were the simple ones. How to tuck away unsightly light cords, buy a more realistic candle sleeve for chandeliers, little baskets for silverware etc. Keep 'em coming, Joan! We appreciate and value your opinion and insight. Thank you for inviting us, inside your fabulous home! - Jill Meckly

  91. Hi Joan, I have loved your blog for years and have "copied" many of your ideas as I have remodeled our kitchen and family room. 92. I, like many others, love all the decorating. But I assume you are beginning to run out of rooms to show us. I loved your kitchen drawer posts and would love to see how you organize your linens, tablecloths, bathroom supplies, pantry, laundry room, office stuff, phones/computers, etc. I also have an antique farm table and am never sure how to dress it for nice dinners. Do you use table cloths, placemats, runners or bare wood?

  93. I have been thinking about what I would like to see on your blog all month. Today I just ran across your 2010 post on finding antique piano table legs. At the time you were considering using them as legs on an ottoman for the yet to be created barn room. Did I miss a post on how you used them? I would be curious to learn about other "finds" and your vision for using them. I like that your home is very much a reflection of your personality (as you convey it in the blog) as a warm, lovely place to live and doesn't lean too heavily on the trends of the day. I'd also be interested in accessories/fixtures (lighting, yes, light switches, doorknobs, trim, and scale) and how you store what you have that comes out seasonally. I certainly appreciate the energy you invest in sharing your stories. It takes an enormous amount of time and cannot possibly reflect all that is your life even though, I suspect, your readers feel that we know all about you. I'd still read you if your transitioned to pictures of dogs on fabulous furniture. Thank you so much for the beauty you share. Nancy

  96. Hi Joan, I discovered your blog a couple of years ago and was quickly hooked. Your style in design, writing and communicating details is unsurpassed. It is obvious that you have a genuine, longstanding love and passion for home décor. I'm so happy that I don't feel that I am reading an advertisement or plug of some sort. You asked us for topics of interest. There are so many! If you had a second home to design and decorate, what would it look like? Colors, style, design elements and where would it be? We all have other looks and styles that we really love, even if it doesn't reflect in our own home. I'd love to hear what other styles you love. Thank you for all of your time, care in providing us with so much great information and a peek into your life in NH.

Just continue to do what you do - allow us to "come into" your home for a visit and share a few ideas and stories about those sweet pups! One idea, though, would be to let us know how you cook. I admit I'm a foodie, can't tell you how many cookbooks I have because I've lost count, and am always interested in reading a new recipe. Whatever you choose to share, I know it will be great! Have a great day and stay warm! Kat in Benton LA
