All photographs by Lisa Romerein from Patina Farm by Brooke Giannetti and Steve Giannetti, reprinted by permission of Gibbs Smith.
You, of course, know my friend Brooke Giannetti, the gifted interior designer behind
Velvet & Linen fame and her uber-talented husband, architect Steve Giannetti.
Yes, of course you do, how could you not?!!
I found Brooke's blog Velvet & Linen right after I found Joni at Cote de Texas when I first discovered design blogs back in 2008! In fact, it is because of Brooke and a post she did on my blog on Velvet & Linen right after I started writing about our renovation of the farmhouse that I first developed a following of readers, which in turn encouraged me to continue writing about our journey. So, in essence Brooke is the reason you are here reading my blog! She gave me my blog-wings and I can not thank her enough for that. Both Brooke and Steve were so generous and gracious with helping me figure out several very important details around the house during our renovation and for that I will be forever grateful. They are both such lovely, kind people.
I can honestly say that the only home that I have ever seen (that could make me walk away from the farmhouse;) where I could walk right in, not change a single element or piece of furniture and live happily ever after (with Dan and the girls of course;) is Brook and Steve's Ojai home!
The house and property is pure magic.
Watching their progress over the last several years... from selling their gorgeous home in Santa Monica, (which was the subject of their first book Patina Style HERE) to buying land in Ojai, to breaking ground on the house, to Brooke discussing all the design elements, to watching every detail of the landscaping and viewing Steve's renderings of what they wanted the property and house to be has been a riveting journey for their love of a house. That they created a home and property that looks like it has been there for 100 years is nothing short of amazing.
Brooke and Steve's new book, Patina Farm is a beautiful collaboration of the duo's love, passion and talent to create "home." I have savored every moment of reading the book; taking in the story of the decisions, the design elements, the choices made and why they made them makes the book a wonderful, informative read. This is a book I will use over and over again for inspiration.
Take a look at some of the magic for yourself....
...pure magic!

I think you, Brooke and Steve have exquisite taste and love everything you do. However, that is not what impresses me the most. It is your shared love of your pets and the environment that are more important to me. In truth, anyone can be or claim to be a designer or decorator, but not all have the passion for our surroundings, wildlife and our dear pets and incorporate that passion into their designs. Jayne Zabala (jaynez@prodigy.net)
ReplyDeleteI have been reading Steve and Brooke's blog for as long as I have been reading yours and Joni's; can't remember which one came first, but I am happy I found all of you. Your blogs have given me so much inspiration, information and visual pleasure; I am truly grateful for all of the time, effort and expertise you all so generously share.
ReplyDeleteI loved Patina Style and I recently bought Patina Home (so there is no need to include me in the giveaway). I just wanted to take this opportunity to say how fabulous the new book and the Giannetti's new Ojai home are. Readers: If you aren't the lucky winner, buy it anyway. You will love it. Truly. I -- like you, Joan -- could move right into this one and be perfectly content with home and garden. XOXO, Victoria
This book looks so nice and the pictures are gorgeous! I'd love to read and learn from this book and a signed copy would be such a treasure!
ReplyDeleteI have always dreamt of living on a farm, Brooke & Steve's book makes that dream come to life. Like you, I could move in without changing a single thing. In addition to the talent both share, they seem to be genuinely nice people.
ReplyDeleteIf I don't win, I'll definitely be buying Patina Farm. I love and re-read Patina Style all the time.
Karen

What a gorgeous book and lovely history of your blog. Thank you for this opportunity. The reason I would like to win is simply because it's not in my budget to own a book like this, but what inspiration it would be as I decorate and "shop my house" in our new to us retirement lake house!!

ReplyDeleteI have designed a home similar to this in my dreams so many times - the lower roof height and pitch, all one floor, ageless and welcoming and so much more. When they built this home, I followed along with so much joy for them, knowing that country life is good for the soul. I have their first book and of course would love to add this to my design library.
ReplyDeleteI would love spend a sunny Spring afternoon absorbing all the wonderful ideas this book offers!! Thanks for the giveaway!!

ReplyDeleteI have followed her blog for sometime. Not only do I love their home but her gardens and even chicken coop are amazing. Would love to have the book. dan-winn@hotmail.com
ReplyDeletePatina Style was one of my first design book purchases. It was the book that gave a name to my love for simple natural elements that we live with and that bear the wear of use and life -- patina! This is the heart and soul of all my home decisions. I love the connection Steve and Brooke bring between indoors and outside. We have been slow to renovate our home, and Patina Farm might just be the inspiration to move us forward. (mitchellco99@hotmail.com)
ReplyDeleteThe Giannetti's home is like a dream. So beautiful, so peaceful and still. I would love to have their book. Thank you.

ReplyDeleteI too, like many of the other comments that have been posted, have been following Velvet and Linen, since i started to read blogs, several years ago. Their landscaping and beautiful home being built, was a joy to see. The book has to be amazing, just like Steve and Brooke, and I would love to add it to my small library.

ReplyDeleteRecently my husband and I have chosen to unplug .. No Cable, limited internet, no Wifi. Catching up on blogs here at a local coffee shop with WiFi right now. ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely opportunity Joan, thank you so much. I have had the lovely privilege of meeting Brooke and Steve on more than one occasion. Their design studio Giannetti Home. ReplyDeleteYour home is definitely more my style and have enjoyed your blog so much since I discovered you. The Patina Farm is certainly a dream of a place and that would be such a lovely place to live. It is so elegantly simple and not over the top which makes it so inviting and seem like people may actually live there. Great offer of a giveaway which would be wonderful to win.
ReplyDeleteI just heard about this couple last week! I'm so intrigued to learn more about them and their beautiful home. I can see how you would love what they do as you are style kin.
ReplyDeleteI too, am from Texas and had the wonderful privilege of living in CT for 15 years in a house that was built in 1845. I now reside in the Richmond, VA area. But New England is my soul's home and always will be. When I stumbled onto your blog, I cried, it brought up such longing in me. (The cover of the fall issue of LL Bean does that to me, too.) But it also satisfied, something, as well. I too, am a lover of good design, old things, and, of course, dogs. So I thank you for being there, and for sharing your love of NE and home. As for the Giannettis, I would love to become acquainted with them through a slow perusal of their inspired book. Thanks for the give away! yoliegb@gmail.com
This house just says, "Peace"!
ReplyDeleteI have the first book Patina Style and love it. Would love the new book too. Hope I win. Thanks so much. Sdd1901@aol.com

ReplyDeleteI have followed your site and theirs - and both bring me great pleasure and joy. Isn't that what life should be - a succession of pleasures and joys? Well, we all know that a 'little' rain must fall' and there are sad times and catastrophes - all those dark moments that we can't control.
ReplyDeleteYour blog and Velvet and Linen are two of my little joys.
I thank both of you for that and would welcome the opportunity to win the book - especially knowing that it came from your site/blog!
Because I must have every design book that you recommend!

I would love to own this book for myself, but this copy would actually be given as a gift to a friend on her birthday this year. We have traditionally given one another beautiful books that inspire us to move toward our dreams, and my friend dreams of one day owning a lovely farmhouse to be enjoyed by her and her husband , and the many generations that will follow! What better inspiration than the Giannettis’ home! Fortunately, she is a good friend, so I know she won’t mind if I peruse the book before wrapping it up for her birthday!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! rrjones@carolina.rr.com

Joan! I have been following Patina Farm since they were doing the site work on their place. Their standards are beyond my financial reach by a galaxy. Nonetheless, there are ideas to be mined, and most of my stuff already has a ton of patina. Truly though, I would love to pour over their book. You and I have communicated via email about the old piano legs we salvaged, but I don't want to put my email here for all to see. I guess that leaves me out of the running? Have a wonderful spring. I hope to run into you at Walkers Farm this season. We haunt the same places: Brimfield, Manchester by the Sea, The Bower Bird. etc. I hope you will get back to blogging more often--I miss your regular posts, but I know topics are hard to come by. Maybe you need to renovate another house.
ReplyDeleteAll the best to you and yours. Annie
Always late to your party Joan! I am with you, so love Patina Farm and the huge process to get it to where it is today. I was introduced to their blog through you. Best lillian

I love your blog and everything about your home, I look forward to receiving your email. Sometimes I will reread some of your older post if I have not receive one recently. I could easily move into home and not change anything. Thank you for introducing me to Velvet and Linen, I've never heard of Velvet and Linen until today. They too have a lovely home that would be easy to move into. I love the county setting, the gardens, their home is stunning. I would love a copy of their book. Thank you for introducing me to their blog.

I too could move right into Patina Farm! I would just take my toothbrush and the clothes on my back. I'm sure I would need a whole new wardrobe of California clothes and a few bottles of California wine. The house is perfection!
ReplyDeleteOf course, I could moved right into your house too! I have followed your homes transformation from the beginning. It is warm and inviting. I love your "girls".

ReplyDeleteHi Joan,
ReplyDeleteI've been following along on Instagram. I've been inspired by you and your love and attention to detail for your home. A few months ago my husband and I made our dream come true when we purchased a home in CA. Inspiration from you and from others like The Gianetti's are helping us create the home we've always wanted to live in. It's a process that I'm not trying to rush because we have the rest of our lives here. I hope you'll consider us for the giveaway. Thank you! Christine
